일본 반도체기업 도시바 메모리 144년만에 사명 변경! 키옥시아(Kioxia) 홀딩스
SK하이닉스가 지분 투자한 한미일연합의 일본 반도체 기업 도시바 메모리(TMC, Toshiba Memory Corporation)는 7월 18일 10월 1일부로 사명을 ‘키옥시아(Kioxia) Holdings Corporation’로 변경한다고 발표했다. 도시바(東芝)에서 독립한 도시바 메모리 홀딩스는 도시바 그룹과는 별도의 회사임을 강조하고 새로운 사업 추진을 위해 10월 1일부터 그룹 산하 자회사와 제픔 브랜드도 키옥시아로 바뀐다.
키옥시아는 일본어 kioku(기억,記憶·きおく)와 그리스어 axia(악시아, 가치)를 합성하여 만들었다. 새로운 미션(Kioxia’s Mission)은 ‘기억으로 즐거운 세상을 만든다( Uplifting the world with “memory” —)‘이다.
도시바 메모리는 2017년 4월 도시바의 메모리 사업을 승계하여 출범한 후 2018년 6월 1일 도시바 그룹에서 독립했다. 2019년 3월에는 도시바 메모리를 자회사로 둔 도시바 메모리 홀딩스를 창립했다. 현재 도시바 메모리 홀딩스의 주주 구성 (의결권 기준)은 BCPE Pangea Cayman 49.9 %, 도시바 40.2 %, HOYA 9.9 %이다.
SK하이닉스는 베인 캐피탈이 이끄는 컨소시엄이자 특수목적법인 (BCPE Pangea Intermediate Holdings Cayman, LP)에 출자했다.
Toshiba Memory to Rebrand as “Kioxia” in October
Unique brand name combines Japanese word for “memory” and Greek word for “value”
Tokyo, July 18, 2019 – Toshiba Memory Corporation announced today that it will officially change its name to Kioxia Corporation on October 1, 2019. The name Kioxia (kee-ox-ee-uh) will be adopted for the names of all Toshiba Memory companies, largely effective on the same date.
Kioxia is a combination of the Japanese word kioku meaning “memory” and the Greek word axia meaning “value.” Merging “memory” with “value,” Kioxia represents the company’s mission to uplift the world with “memory,” which forms the foundation of the company’s vision. Kioxia will cultivate the new era of memory, defined by rapidly increasing demands for large-capacity, high-performance storage and data processing, which positions the company to grow sustainably as a leading flash memory producer for many years to come.
